Electronics recycling for local residents

WALLINGFORD
— Town residents can drop off unwanted electronics at the town’s recycling center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. the second Saturday of each month at 157 John St.

Accepted items include computers, monitors, printers, TVs, laptops, keyboards, mice, fax machines, stereos, modems, telephones, as well as VCR, DVD and CD players.

There is no charge, but each household is limited to seven items per visit. Saturday is the next day to drop off electronics.

Yalesville LL registration set

WALLINGFORD
— Yalesville Little League will accept registration for the 2012 Little League season in the Parker Farms School cafeteria according to the following schedule: 6 to 8 p.m. Jan. 18 and 25, and 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 21 and 28.

Registration is open to any child who will be 5 by April 30 and not older than 16 by the same date. Children under 12 are must live west of the Wilbur Cross Parkway, Route 15. All other ages including Challenger players may live anywhere in Wallingford.

Poetry group to meet Saturdays

WALLINGFORD
— The Wallingford Public Library’s poetry-writing group, Saturday Mornings with Poetry, will meet from 9:45 a.m. to noon this Saturday and Jan. 28 in the library board room.

Teen and adult poets and poetry lovers are invited.

At each meeting, participants are welcome to read original poems and share their writing experiences with fellow poets. For information, call the library at (203) 265-6754.



Knights of Columbus sets roast beef dinner

WALLINGFORD
— Knights of Columbus Pinta Council 5 will sponsor a roast beef dinner at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21, at 190 Ward St.

Book club meets at library Jan. 19

WALLINGFORD
— The Wallingford Public Library’s Thursday Night Book Club will discuss the science fiction novel, “The Sparrow,” by Mary Doria Russell, at 7 p.m. Jan. 19.

“The Sparrow” tells the story of Jesuit priest and linguist Emilio Sandoz, who leads a 21st-century scientific mission to a newly discovered extraterrestrial culture.

All are welcome to read the book and join the discussion.

Books will be available from the library’s information desk. The Thursday Night Book Club is an informal gathering for fans of fiction and popular nonfiction. Each month a book is selected for group discussion and all are welcome to come and share their thoughts about authors, writing styles, plots, and themes.

SHS cheerleaders’ fundraiser Jan. 25

WALLINGFORD
— The Sheehan High School cheerleaders will sponsor a fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at Burger King, 888 N. Colony Road.

Burger King will donate 20 percent of the evening’s sales to the team.

Also, the team will accept donations from 6 a.m. to noon Jan. 28, at the Dunkin’ Donuts on Main Street in Yalesville. For information, call Lisa Eroh at (203) 269-6161.



Relay for Life fundraiser Jan. 28

WALLINGFORD
— Elks Lodge 1365 will sponsor its annual Relay for Life fundraiser beginning at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28, at the lodge, 148 S. Main St.

The menu will consist of chicken parmigiana and a dessert. Entertainment will be provided by the band, Freeplay. Admission will be charged and tickets may be purchased at the lodge. For information, call the lodge at (203) 269-7162.



Library program on headaches set

WALLINGFORD
— Neurologist Dr. Justin Montanye will present a program on the common causes and treatment of headaches at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Wallingford Public Library.

The presentation will include a discussion of tension headaches and migraines and the traditional and complementary therapies used to manage headaches at Mid-State Medical Center’s headache center.

The program is part of the “Dessert with a Doc” series and will be cosponsored by Wallingford Public Library and MidState Medical Center. Advance registration is suggested. For information or a reservation, call the library at (203) 265-6754.

WALLINGFORD
— The Silver Cities Wallingford chapter of Business Networking International will sponsor a visitors’ day and business expo from 7 to 8:30 a.m. Feb. 17, at Zandri’s Stillwood Inn, 1074 S. Colony Road.
